VACUUM COATING Technologies (VACT) has been a key provider of technology in the field of large area coatings for over 25 years. Our mission is to carry out “practical research, structured product development and successful commercialization of innovations that meet our customer’s needs.
Practical Research:
VACT has invested in full production-scale equipment for development purposes. In 1997 we commissioned G-85, a 100”-wide-substrate modular style glass coater at our facility in Fairfield, CA and in 2005 replaced it with G-100, a 100” VAC 870 compartment style glass coater with turbo-molecular and diffusion pumps, rotatable C-MAG® magnetrons, planar cathodes and ion beam coating sources. Developments made i n this production-scale equipment can be directly transferred to production coaters.
Dedicated Technology resources also include lab-scale coating equipment, static cathode testing chambers, and well-equipped thin film modeling, analytical and environmental testing laboratories.
New Development in Coatings Temperable Low-E and Solar Control:
Efficient production of coated glass for architectural, automotive and other large area coating applications requires the ability to coat full-size sheets of glass and store them for later fabrication including cutting, tempering and insulated glazing manufacture. VACT Technology provides customers equipment, product and process know-how to manufacture a competitive line of state-of-the-art standard and temperable Low-E, Solar Control and specialty coatings.
Solutions to Market Demands:
VACT welcomes cooperative development programs with customers. Recent development projects have included:
- Improving optical thickness uniformity to better than +/- 2% on coated glass
- Developing high power, low arc, low debris coating sources with better than 90% target utilization
- Developing coated glass monitoring systems with built-in quality control features
- Integration of linear ion sources into large area coating equipment for substrate pre-cleaning and other applications
